Fabory's 3D Portal

Fabory's 3D Portal helps customers design new products and make connections. This tool is frequently used by manufacturers of machines, production lines, transport systems, greenhouse builders, and electrical equipment manufacturers. The 3D Portal offers over 75,000 products in standard 2D and 3D CAD formats, displayed in various views and with or without dimensions. If a product is available in 3D, it will have a "Download CAD model" option in the specifications. Clicking on this link takes users directly to the 3D Portal, but registration is necessary to use the Portal.

Fabory's Product Manager, Rob Marcus, notes that: "the 3D Portal sees 25,000 to 30,000 downloads per month, mainly by engineers in the manufacturing industry worldwide, with a significant portion from Europe. Marcus attributes the growing number of downloads to the expanding market and the demand for a user-friendly portal with a direct link to the webshop. He emphasises that the Portal's efficiency allows users to easily navigate from a product to the webshop, select the product, and add it to their shopping cart."

Gemba walk

Fabory can contribute to improving fastening processes during production. During a Gemba Walk, we observe the assembly line to see how fasteners and related items are installed. This often reveals opportunities for improvement and cost savings, which can lead to a better, safer, and more efficient process or product. For example, using multi-purpose screws can reduce the number of installation steps. Another example is optimising assembly instructions to make the connection more resistant to loosening or fatigue.

Product rationalisation

When a company has been developing and producing multiple products for years, it can lead to various fasteners being used. Product rationalisation can help the customer reduce three different fasteners to just one. We improve the list of items by eliminating or replacing intermediate sizes or technically obsolete products. Sometimes, a small change allows a cheaper standard item to replace an expensive, specially-produced fastener.

Rationalisation of surface treatments

Rationalisation is also possible with the applied surface treatments. It is often more economical to order one type of corrosion protection on fasteners instead of ordering the same screws with different coatings. Sometimes, it is even more cost-effective to replace small fasteners with special corrosion protection all at once with stainless steel variants.

We assess where improvements can be made with the customer. Sometimes, a locking product with an adapted mounting method is unnecessary.
