European Commission launches new anti-dumping investigation

23-12-2024

This autumn, the European Commission initiated a new investigation into fastener categories originating in the People's Republic of China. This action follows a claim by the European Industrial Fastener Institute (EIFI), the European association of fastener manufacturers. The commission is now examining whether Chinese fastener manufacturers have exported products at prices below normal market value (‘dumping’).

The investigation is expected to be concluded by November 2025. It focuses on:

All European imports of carbon steel CN codes 7318 15 42 and 7318 15 48 (Threaded rods from carbon, Studs, Set screws, Hook anchors).

At this point, it is uncertain whether the EC will impose anti-dumping duties (ADD) or what the duty rates might be if they do. Previous ADD investigations over the past three decades have resulted in ADD measures being implemented. The last ADD measures, which have been in effect since 2022, included duty rates of 86.5% for a similar scope.

Alternative suppliers

For most of the products, we have identified alternative suppliers. While this reduces Fabory’s exposure to potential anti-dumping duties, it might result in an increase in the cost price of our products. By proactively responding to developments in  AD investigation, we aim to minimize any disruption to your operations and ensure your inventory levels remain stable.

Naturally, we are closely monitoring market developments and the European Commission's investigation. If you have any questions about your production planning or inventory, please contact your account manager or our customer service team.
